Research at Puget Sound Blood Center

Our Blood Research Saves Lives
Puget Sound Blood Center's team of researchers is working every day to save lives and to improve patient care. The Blood Center has been committed to advancing transfusion medicine through research since its inception in 1944.

That commitment continues today with our staff of nearly 40 scientists, whose specialized labs are working to better the lives of those with bleeding disorders, those who need life- saving transfusions or bone marrow matches, and many others.

Our research program has been recognized worldwide for major advancements and contributions to transfusion and transplantation medicine.

Leading the Blood Center's scientific efforts into the future, José A. López, MD, executive vice president for Research, notes the Blood Center's leadership in its field: "The Blood Center's research has a distinguished 60-year record and is recognized internationally. My hope is to further enhance the Blood Center's reputation, bringing the best, brightest and most creative minds here to make discoveries that will not only help the people of the Puget Sound region, but improve the lives of people throughout the world."
