Why I Donate: I started in 1970 when my first husband had a brain operation. After the surgery I found out that there was five members of Foresters waiting at the blood bank when they opened the doors the morning of the surgery. I told Tony that if they could do that for him then I could do the same for someone else. My mother was living with my present husband me when one day I was giving blood & saw the platelet machines and asked if they were giving dialysis here. I was told no & they explained the machines to me. So the next time, I gave platelets. When I came in for platelets the 2nd time they said my count was so high could they get a double bag? I asked if it would hurt me and they said it shouldn't, so from then on I went the 1st Wednesday & middle Monday until the doctor told me I had cancer. On 9 Nov. 2000 I had cancer surgery, had treatment, and have been cleared and now I am giving again.
