Southwest Washington Blood Program of Puget Sound Blood Center opened its new permanent donor center, located near Westfield Vancouver mall, on January 17, 2007. Even with a blanket of snow and ice, intrepid donors made their way in to celebrate the opening by donating the gift of life.
It is this dedication the Blood Program hopes to honor with its new, state-of-the-art donor center. This new permanent location is part of the Blood Program’s effort to help accommodate the needs of committed donors in our community as well as to serve the growing need for blood by area patient and medical services.
The Blood Program is the main supplier of blood to medical centers and hospitals in Clark and Cowlitz counties and has been serving patients in this part of the state for more than 10 years. Although the amount of blood needed has surpassed the amount donated locally, that trend is likely to change in the coming year. And that will be because of the Blood Program’s new donor center and continued support of generous blood donors.
