JANUARY 12, 2007, SEATTLE — Southwest Washington Blood Program of Puget Sound Blood Center will open its new, permanent blood donor center, located just east of Westfield Vancouver mall, at noon on Wednesday, January 17, 2007. The new, state-of-the-art donor center is being built to help accommodate the needs of patients and medical facilities in our community.
The Blood Program is the main supplier of blood to medical centers and hospitals in Clark and Cowlitz counties and has been serving patients in this part of the state for more than 10 years. But the amount of blood needed surpasses the amount donated locally. Opening the new donor center is one measure being made to reverse that trend and we are confident it will, due to the area’s generous and dedicated blood donors.
Any coverage of this opening is greatly appreciated.
- Location: The new donor center is located at 9320 NE Vancouver Mall Drive, Suite 100, just east of Westfield Vancouver Mall. Please see the attached release for details.
- Ribbon Cutting: A ribbon cutting ceremony with Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard is planned at noon on Wednesday. At 2:30 p.m.
- Photo Opportunity: Joe Kortum, Southwest Washington Medical Center President and CEO and Jonathan Avery, Vice President, Administrator Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital will roll up their sleeves and donate blood together in a show of support for the new donor center.
- State of the Art The new donor center for Southwest Washington Blood Program is the tenth donor center opened in Western Washington by Puget Sound Blood Center. The center will be the most advanced technically and will also feature a post donation room specially designed for the comfort of donors.
- To Donate: Walk-ins are welcome. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment ahead of time by calling 1-800-398-7888 or to visit the Blood Program’s Web site at swblood.org.
